Our communities

We support the rejuvenation of communities by engaging residents and working in partnership with others.

From service design and delivery, to large scale regeneration projects, we believe there is a much better outcome for everyone when we work closely together.

Community and resident engagement

We actively support our residents to contributed to the communities they live in. In summary:

  • We support local community groups through expertise and funding.
  • We initiate and promote community projects and activities such as information events, open days and fun events.
  • We engage with hard-to-reach or isolated residents through external partners and internal teams.
  • We link up with other agencies such as the NHS, police, local councils, schools, housing and voluntary organisations to provide the right kind of services that meet community’s needs.
  • We manage and support the provision of community facilities for residents and groups, and other external services.

Community activity on the Isle of Dogs in Tower Hamlets

The Isle of Dogs (more commonly known as the Island) is home to many One Housing residents. We work closely with TRAs, community groups and other partner organisations to support our residents. We also provide funding for community projects called Community Chest and are a leading partner of the Tower Hamlets Community Involvement Network.

Development and regeneration

When we invest in new homes or seek to redevelop or improve our existing buildings and estates, we engage local communities to find out their local priorities and identify how we can positively contribute to the local area. We work with residents and support them to decide what they want for their area by setting up steering groups so that they play a leading role in local plans.

We are committed to helping preserve existing communities while helping other people join and enrich them. Similarly, we look to create homes for people with different needs and incomes across an estate or development.

Working in partnership

We work with partners to deliver activities that can make a real difference to our residents’ lives.

We also work with our suppliers to deliver social value plans for the benefit of our communities. They can include: apprenticeship placements and work experience opportunities for residents or sponsorship funding for specific events such as our summer outreach programmes.
